Arsenal: Sack The Board?
July 17, 2007 on 9:03 pm | In Arsenal FC | posted by Block19er |Arsene today came out on arsenal.com and told Gooners the reason why he has not secured a ‘director of football’. Arsene said “I wanted to do it before the end of the season when I started buying and selling,” he said. “But then I thought that now is the worst time because I have no time to tell someone how I want to do things.” At the moment the gaffa is happy working with the current board “I did not want to unsettle the team before the end of the transfer market. So at the moment I work with Ken Friar and it is working well for us.” Chief scout Grimandi is the media and the fans favourite to fill the role.
Wenger was keen to ease the pressure from Eduardo (arsenal.com). He points to the fact that DUDU is more of a team player. He likes short passes and getting into the box to finish rather than picking up the ball and running 40 yards with it to score. It may actually help the team having a lead man rather than us being frustrated that nobody would be forward to finish off our fast breaks.
The Palacio rumours that surfaced yesterday have been rubbished by his agent Sky Sports quote him as saying “Nobody has got in touch with me. Rodrigo still has a week of holidays and I have said to him to rest calm because what has been said does not exist.”
A debate on RedActions forum has developed over ‘Sack the board’ chants heard at Barnet on Saturday. I totally disagree with these chants and feel that any more upheaval would seriously damage our season and reduce the chances of Wenger staying which is by far the most important thing for Arsenal. As stated above if Wenger is happy with dealing with Ken Friar then that is good enough for me.
Fans Views
Nick K - “Both he (Henry) and Vieira left due to “lack of ambition”.
“The scary concept for me is the “Arsene knows” concept. That’s what I said with all belief, on Vieira leaving. Here we are trophy less 4 seasons later. yes we have great ground, great facilities and NO f’ing trophies.”
“Arsenal fans need to wake up, smell the coffee and order a super-size yankee energy burst pls …….”
“replacing the board NOW with the rich yank certainly is my view.”
“does money equal success anyway?? we know this is not the case as there is more to building a great team than simply accumulatiing the best players. chelsea’s biggest downfall under raneiri was signing too many players, and now mourinho is falling into the same trap.”
Steven P - “I’m far from an unreserved admirer of the current board but I think this is a case of “be careful what you wish for”. Very few “investors” in football these days are looking to put money in. They’re looking to take it out. The Glazers have now run up the debts at Old Trafford WELL over £730 million with this summer’s spending spree. ALL the fees have been paid for with tick. If you look at the United accounts
they’re not paying ANYTHING off the loans they took on to buy the club then dumped on the club’s accounts. They’re only paying interest.”
“One poor season and no CL football the following season and the club will rapidly go nipples up financially. “
Tony - “When I first bought my season ticket at Highbury there was no waiting list, you could choose to sit anywhere you fancied, and we were down to crowds of 25,000 for some games. Such crashes can happen, and if the club is lumbered with impossible debt that’s when it all falls down. Remember no one predicted Leeds demise at the time. Steven is 100% right. Be careful what you wish for.”
Ben R – “Liverpool have signed Torres, Benayoun, Babel, and Voronin, I am not exactly quaking in my boots. Torres will probably be the only one to start the first game of the season and he only scored 14 goals in Spain last year. He’s panic bought because he couldn’t get who he wanted.”
“Uni-ched are buying players on tick and the chavs buy and buy so everyone’s so unsettled they can’t perform. Ronaldo(prick) had a stormer last season, can he repeat it, is he loyal enough to stay around?”
“We are definately the third/fourth best team in the league, without Henry, and if the key players Toure, Clichy, Fabregas, Gilberto, Van Persie stay fit. If they click we’ll be first or second. Van Persie has the potential to do what Ronaldo(prick) did last season.”
“As for those tramps down the seven sisters, Who?”
Rob G - “My opinion is that I’m not for the American until we know for sure his agenda.”
“Anyone pumping millions into Arsenal will not really change our signing structure as that is just not Arsene’s way. However, reduction of our large debts would always be welcome so it’s not something to dismiss lightly.”
“I am however in favour of the immediate removal of Edelman. This man knows nothing about our traditions and heritage and cares not a jot about our fans.”
“Ultimately, if we ever lost Arsene due to boardroom strife, then as far as I’m concerned, the whole board should walk in shame. Until this happens, lets keep our council and watch it unfold.”
What’s your opinion?
For those of you who were planning on rushing to buy tickets for the Fulham game arsenal have announced the Silver Level sale has been postponed until further notice due to technical difficulties. Let’s hope the season doesn’t start so slowly on the field.

What a pathetic bunch of twats chanting sack the board. The board own you tossers. They decide who you watch and when. As a Gooner I support the Arsenal board 100%. They are right in their stance and approach to the game.

Keep the board!! Keep Wenger!! Everything is rosey. As said in the article I am not impressed by peoples signings. Spending money on names doesn’t garauntee success. Schevchenko was more worrying than Torres and Bent put together and look how that turned out!!
