Kanoute on his way?

Quote of the day came before the Lazio Arsenal match when Nigel Winterburn told Sky Sport that “Arsene Wengers has never bought any big stars, he’s made big stars”. He was reacting to Freddie’s moans when he left the club. At least Nigel has been awake these last 10 years.

Arsenals’ game today highlighted defensive frailties but there is no need for panic Arsenal will not be starting Premiership games with these four at the back and if everyone stays fit only one of the four is likely to make the bench. Realistically this match gave this young back four a good chance to play against decent players and gain some ‘friendly’ European action. Senderos and Djourou had both poor moments and great moments, both players blocked certain goal chances. In attack Arsenal played with great style and Eduardo is a massive goal threat and will definitely score goals, Van Persie is also now an exceptional player. A comical moment did occur last on when Van Persie tricked his way into the box and past the keeper only to slide it to Rosicky who didn’t shoot with an open goal but slide it to Hoyte who did crack a shot but it hit the post. Rosicky looks like he is going to produce some good form for Arsenal but he must stay fit, and he must shoot, these midfielders must take a pop.

Apart from the win the best Arsenal news today, and probably most important, came from the immigration department who gave Eduardo a work permit. Wenger was always confident he’d get it but you never know. The Sun’s headline ‘relief’ is a little over the top.

Former Scummer Freddie Kanoute seems to think he’s in with a shout of an Arsenal move, he is quoted on tribalfootball as saying, “If my agent tells me they’re serious, then I will listen to what they have to say.” I’m not surprised Freddie! We are a little bigger than those boys from down the lane. The rumour mill really is grinding since Wenger said he wanted to sign one or two more players. Kanoute has improved since he left the scum though, he scored 21 goals in 32 games last season so those goals wouldn’t go a miss, I’m sure the written press will have picked up the Kanoute story by tomorrow, help them with their column inches anyway.

  1. When Arsenal have van Persie, Adebayor, Eduardo, Bendtner, Hleb, Walcott and Rosicky all as either centre forwards or players capable of playing off a centre forward, why on earth would Wenger spend a lot of money buying another striker? Bad rumour. Likewise with this Diarra rumour. Right, we have Gilberto, Fabregas, Flaimini, Song, Diaby, Denilson, Hleb, Rosicky and Djourou all as players capable of playing in central midfield if not already playing there. Neither of these rumours are completely impossible, but both are very badly thought out, extremely unlikely and senseless at best. Where on earth would Arsenal find the room for either of those two players in their current squad without needing to sell others to make room for them- which seems pretty pointless considering ability wise neither of them add anything Arsenal don’t already have. I think today was yet more proof that despite the fact that Traore is extremely talented and has huge potential, at the young age of 17 he leaks far too much defensively and is far from close to rivalling Clichy for his place. I felt none of the back 4 had great games today, but at least the other 3 in the back line usually play much better when surrounded by other first team players (like Senderos with Gallas against Inter). If Wenger will buy just one more player this season I think it would be wisest as another Sagna type for left back cover if Clichy gets injured. Arsenal have made far too many defensive mistakes over the past couple of seasons and having any player in the team who would quite possibly make mistakes big enough to cost us a clean sheet quite regularly is a pointless risk to take. Traore will have his chance in time, but I really hope he isn’t our second choice when the league kicks off.

  2. Though, If Kanoute arrives would mean a huge positive, I have learned the hard way not to trust those idiots at Tribal.
They have linked us to every player possible this summer.

  3. these two rumors are just rumors, tribal completly miss-quote these players and exxagerate what the say, i agree arsene should buy a left back, i also believe we should buy a winger because i feel we need more goals from the wings because Hleb walcott and rosicky have about ten goals between them last season. and a central defender wuld be good because senderous has potential but is unreliable and makes costly mistakes

  4. Apparently Sol is going back to Scum Lane because he heard they’ve got two gay (jolly) strikers ones Keane and the others Bent.
